My great-aunty Joy has a rule about soup. Once a week, every week, in winter she cooks up a big batch of delicious vegetable soup and serves it up to every visitor that enters her kitchen – that’s Rule Number One; you have to have some soup – no IFs or BUTs. Soup is her ‘I-can’t-be-bothered-cooking’ meal, and seeing as she’s about to turn 95 I can imagine she’s had her fair share of those days. Every year, when the 1st of September rolls around, Rule Number Two comes into play: no more winter = no more soup! But when the temperature is only 2ºC on the first morning of spring, Rule Number Three says that Rule Number Two can be postponed for another week! Living on her own at the ripe old age of 94, we like to contribute to Soup Season and this has been a favourite this year: Jo Whitton’s Creamy Chicken & Brown Rice Soup from the Quirky Cooking blog http://www.quirkycooking.com.au/2010/07/creamy-chicken-brown-rice-soup/ Made in my Thermomix TM5 and kept piping hot in the Thermocube™ for the long drive to Joy’s.
